Studio Policies and Procedures

Age Appropriateness

Our class age recommendations have been carefully constructed to group children in a developmentally appropriate way.  It’s important that your child be within the age range for the class in which you are enrolling.  If you have concerns about your child’s success in a particular age range, we are happy to discuss your child’s needs and work with you to find the best class for your child.

Absences & Class Cancellations
Please notify your teacher if you cannot make a class (email sandpiper.learning@gmail.com). In the event of inclement weather, we will follow the decisions made by the Seattle school district.  Please email us or check our website for weather updates.  In the event of teacher absence due to illness or conflict, you will be notified of cancellations by email and/or phone.  In all cases, make-up days will be scheduled and notification emailed/mailed to you within 7-10 business days.

Parking
There is plenty of convenient street parking for our students. As our neighborhood is residential, however, we ask that you be respectful of the roadway, other cars and private driveways. Please do not park too closely to other vehicles, double-park, park in prohibited areas and/or block the road or driveways at any time.

What to Bring, What to Wear
Dress comfortably and for messy play. Put toys away and finish all snacks prior to class. These things are a distraction for your child and can cause conflict if desired by another child. Please remove shoes before entering our in-home studio.

Illness
Keep your child at home if he or she is contagious and/or has a fever, moderate drainage (clear or discolored) from the mouth, nose, eyes, or ears, red discoloration to the whites of the eye(s), skin rashes, severe abdominal pain, vomiting or diarrhea. Children should not return to class until they have been fever-free for 24 hours. Please notify us immediately if your child is diagnosed with a communicable disease. We will notify the community while keeping your child’s name confidential.

Making the Most of Your Class
Please arrive 5 minutes early to give your child warm-up time.  Turn off your cell phone when in class. Be an active, patient role model and do not talk over your teacher.  When you are an engaged, enthusiastic participant, your child will be too.  It’s okay if your child is hesitant in the group environment.  Many children need to attend several classes before feeling comfortable.  Parents frequently say they see a completely different child at home.  If your child is not focused – don’t worry! Actively attempt to help them refocus or quietly participate in their own way.

Classroom Conduct
If your child is engaging in disruptive behaviors, we support the use of positive discipline and redirecting. Disruptive behaviors include screaming, shrieking, inconsolable crying and nonstop running. If it is impossible for your child to attain appropriate classroom behavior, we may ask him/her to leave early for the day. Hitting, pushing and biting will not be tolerated.  If your child repeatedly demonstrates aggressive behaviors you will be asked to withdraw from our program.

Refunds & Late Fees
Tuition and materials can be refunded if your request to withdraw is received a minimum of 5 business days prior to the first day of class.  After class begins, prorated tuition refunds or credit may be given if extenuating circumstances require withdrawal.  All refund requests will be considered on an individual basis.  A $20 registration fee (included in your tuition) and opened home materials are non-refundable at all times.  Refunds will be mailed within 7-10 business days. There is a $25 fee for returned checks.
